His Holiness the Pope meets with development partners of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
On Thursday, March 9, 2023, corresponding to 30 Amshir 1739 A.M., His Holiness Pope Tawadros II received the development partners of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The meeting was attended by His Grace Anba Youlios, General Bishop of Old Cairo and Bishop of Social Services and Integrated Care; Fr. Bishoy Charles, Head of the Papal Office for Social Care; Fr. Raphael Tharwat, Deputy Bishop of Public Services; and officials from church organizations working in community development. These organizations included the Bishopric of Public and Social Services, the Al-Ra’i wa Om Al-Nour Service, the Papal Office for Social Care, the Papal Office for Projects, the Anba Abram Service at St. Mark’s Church in Cleopatra, the Anba Abram Service in Canada, the Coptic Institute for Church Administration and Development (COPTICAD), and the Coptic Orphans service.
The meeting included a presentation on the committee’s activities and efforts during the past period, particularly the database for developmental work in the dioceses. It also featured a presentation on the experience of training and establishing a development office in one of the dioceses. For this initiative, the Coptic Institute for Church Administration and Development designed and implemented interactive training programs for 25 members of the development office (6 priests and 19 male and female servants). The aim was to build their capacities methodologically, theoretically, and practically, while also providing technical support.
Furthermore, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II moderated an open discussion regarding the committee’s future work plan. This was especially considered in light of the Coptic Orthodox Church joining the National Alliance for Civil Developmental Work and its support for the state’s efforts to address the needs of the most impoverished and provide a dignified life for all Egyptians in the upcoming period.
