The Coptic Institute for Church Administration and Development participated in the first scientific conference organized by the “Church and Society Center” affiliated with the Evangelical Theological College in Cairo on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 10:30 AM until 6:00 PM. The conference was titled: “Christian Social Work in Egypt: Re-digging the Old Wells” and was attended by a select group of individuals interested in community affairs in Egypt, along with representatives from the Egyptian Church in its various denominations.
The conference reviewed the history of Christian social work in Egypt across all its denominations, drawing valuable lessons from it and envisioning a more effective and sustainable future map for joint community work.
Prof. Dr. Magdy Latif Al-Sindi, Dean of the Institute, participated in the first session of the conference with a scientific paper on “Community Work in the Egyptian Church: Between Reality and Hope.” Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Nasri Daoud, a faculty member at the Institute, also participated in the second session with a research paper on “The Impact of Christian Counseling Institutes on the Establishment of the “Mawadda” National Program.”
This conference was the culmination of a large number of preparatory meetings held by the Center’s working team, led by Dr. Hanaa Yashoua Gad, Senior Researcher and Supervisor of the Center’s Research Unit, and under the patronage of Dr. Q. Sherif Salah, the Center’s Executive Director.

The conference agenda included three sessions:
First session: “Christian Social Work in Egypt: Biography and Journey” moderated by Rev. Dr. Tharwat Wahib, Vice Dean of the College. Speakers:

Representing Dr. Rev. Andre Zaki, Head of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services.
Father William Sidhom / Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Scientific and Cultural Renaissance Association “Jesuit Cairo”.
Father Milad Shehata / Director of the Franciscan Cultural Center for Coptic Studies.

Session Two: “The Church and Community Work.” Moderated by Prof. Dr. Nadia Halim Soliman, Professor of Sociology and Director of the Women’s Research Program at the National Center for Social and Criminological Research. Speakers included:

The third session, “Social Work as a Tool for Community Reform,” was devoted to presenting and discussing research papers submitted by the following researchers:

Ms. Heba Yousry Habib/ Director of Programs of the Intercultural Dialogue Forum at the Coptic Evangelical Organization.
A. Amjad Shafiq Musa / Artistic Producer / Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership – Evangelical Theological College.
A. Maryam Fikry Saeed / Master’s student in Management and Leadership at the College.
Q. Ayub Ibrahim / Priest and Presbyterian Church in Egypt.
A. Raymonda Adel Hanna / Master of Practical Theology – Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Finally, the results of the research competition were announced, along with the names of the researchers who won the financial award provided by the Church and Community Center to encourage outstanding research with an applied dimension to societal problems.
